Bahama Village Music Program Receives Grant from United Way of Collier and the Keys 

Community Investment Grant will fund popular outreach program “House of Pan” Steel Pan Band at Horace O’Bryant School 

Bahama Village Music Program (BVMP) is proud to announce United Way of Collier and the Keys (UWCK) has granted BVMP $4,500 through their Community Investment Grant to help fund “House of Pan” Steel Pan Band. This popular outreach program, held at Horace O’Bryant School, serves over 40 students through free Steel Pan lessons before and after school led by renowned music educator, Nora Revelin. 

BVMP is excited to continue our partnership with UWCK and continue our increasingly popular steel pan band program at Horace O’Bryant serving students who otherwise would not have access to steel pan instruction. “House of Pan” performs throughout the year at various local events including Schooner Wharf’s Lighted Boat Parade and the Willy Wonka Chocolate Festival. They’ve also performed with world famous steel pannist Robert Greenidge, best known for playing with Jimmy Buffet and his song “Volcano.” This popular program not only teaches students how to play steel pan, the penultimate instrument of the Caribbean, but also teaches team work, collaboration, music theory and rhythm, all while keeping our students safe before and after school. 

United Way of Collier and the Keys is committed to improving lives and strengthening our community so all individuals and families have an opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential. Bahama Village Music Program’s mission is to provide quality music education to children who would otherwise not have access to private music instruction. Together BVMP and UWCK are a perfect match and we are excited to continue our partnership into the future to serve the youth in our community.
